When someone asks a new question, we’ll post it here (with an answer) so everyone can benefit.

What is Player’s Football Club?
See home page.
When does the winter season start and finish?
- Player’s Football Club begins its winter season on Saturday the 5th April 2009.
- The last Saturday session will be conducted on 12th September 2009.
- There will be 18 Saturday sessions.
What does the Saturday morning session comprise?
- Each session is 60 minutes long.
- Each session comprises a variety of football centered activities designed to:
- Develop individual athletic ability. This is done mostly through general games and play.
- Skills development. Teaching functional skills that the players can use in small sided games. and
- Football based games appropriate with the age of the player.
Where will the Saturday sessions it be held?
We will have operate Saturday morning sessions at two locations. One South-side and One North-side.
- Woden enclosed oval. This located at the corner of Kitchener Street and Yamba Drive, Phillip. It is shown as the Athletics Field on UBD Map 68 J14.
- AIS Synthetic field. Access and parking off Leverrier Crescent, Bruce
The Woden venue will also be operating a pre-season Saturday sessions starting 14 Feb 09
What is the registration cost for the winter season 2009?
- $250 for children 3 – 9 years
- $280 for children 10 – 12 years.
- This is the basic package and registers a child for the 18 Saturday morning sessions of 60 minutes duration between 5 April and 12 September 2009.
Are there discounts?
- There are discounts for 3rd and subsequent children from the same family. These are:
- Second child – no discount,
- Third child – $75,
- Four and subsequent child – Free.
- In addition each registered player of the club is entitled to a 20% discount at Player’s FC Holiday clinics during the school holidays.
Is there a particular development philosophy behind the Football Club program?
- Yes there is. The long term development approach has been influence by the writings of Dr Istvan Balyi, a leading expert on short and long-term training and performance programming. An article by Dr Balyi’s article titled Long-term Athlete Development, the system and solutions can be downloaded for reading form our articles section.
- Dr Bayli describes five stages for long-term athlete development. These stages are:
- FUNdamental (under 10’s),
- Training to Train (10 – 14),
- Training to Compete (14 – 18),
- Training to Win (18+), and
- Retirement/Retaining.
- In line with this philosophy Player’s Football Club has chosen to offer a non-teams based program for the players under 12 years of age.
Does Player’s FC form set teams for the football season?
Set teams are not created at Player’s FC. A team structure doesn’t support our development goal to deliver high quality football experiences for young players.
NO applicant will be turned away on the basis of maximum team numbers reached nor will they be forced to play up an age group in order to play football on Saturdays.
A 60 minute Saturday morning session comprises a variety of football centered activities designed to develop individual athletic ability and fitness which underpins the execution of skills taught to our young players. Teams are created on an ad-hoc basis as activities dictate for example, a 2-on-2 or 4-on-4 games.
Positional play and game theory is gradually introduced in the curriculum as player’s mastered other areas of agility, fitness and ball handling skills.
Do you have anything for old blokes – in their 50s… or opportunities for coaching?
I understand there is a program / clinic at Woden for $75 for Term 1- 14 Feb- 14 March.
1) do the kids have to be registered to attend the clinic ($250 to register a 4yr seems steep to me)?
2) what time start & finish?
Thanks
Colin
Hi Colin,
You can participate in the Term 1 program without joining the winter program.
The sessions runs from 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Hope this helps.
